The season of Easter begins on Easter Sunday. In the grand picture of life, every day after this is Easter. Easter is the Christian reality—the foundation of the church. From this point in history, we realize that the kingdom of heaven is “eastering” all around us whether we identify it or not. Like cracks in the pavement as vegetation sticks its head out—life in the earth can’t help but break through human infrastructure to reclaim its own. Even in the church, as in our own lives, Easter is breaking in. We can either make room for it or watch the church—and our lives—crumble apart as it breaks through our attempts to direct it.

This is exciting news! The climax is not just that we are saved from something (i.e., our sin), but Christ reveals through the resurrection that we—His church—are saved for something (i.e., abundant life). The season of Easter centres on new life triumphing over the old. Primarily we celebrate this in Christ’s life, but this season is also a time to recognize the implications of Christ’s life on our own lives and on his church.

Based on a series of messages by John Maxwell, in this series we will explore the implications of living into our calling as a body of resurrection people, recognizing that a church can only be what God has called them to be when everyone takes on their biblical role.
