What is Spiritual Direction?

  • “Spiritual Direction is a way of companioning people as they seek to look closely, through the eyes of their hearts, at the guidance and transforming work of God in their lives.”  (Alice Fryling)

  • It is a relationship of three … a Directee (the one seeking), a Director (the one companioning) and the Holy Spirit (the true Guide).

 What is Group Spiritual Direction?

“The purpose of spiritual direction groups is formation. Spiritual formation is ‘a process of being conformed to the image of Christ for the sake of others.” The intentional goal of group spiritual direction is to help each participant become more aware of God in their lives, for the sake of others.  In other words, it leads to an awakening of the soul. This awakening then leads to a life which is purposeful and intentional. Group spiritual direction helps individuals grow in their faith, love others more fully and participate in the mission of the church more effectively.” (Seeking God Together – Alice Fryling)

  • It is an opportunity to be heard and cared for as we explore our own spiritual journeys.

  • It is a safe place where we are supported to ‘dig deeper.’

  • It is a place where we can explore our ‘soul needs,’ supported by others who are also actively seeking to hear the direction of God.

  • It is a place where we can be cared for and supported as we explore life’s complexities and questions on our own spiritual journeys.

 What Group Spiritual Direction is NOT:

  • It is not a mission group, or committee or accountability group.

  • It is not a conversation group.

  • It is not a Bible Study.
